Regulations, procedures and guidelines
Research Board
The Research Board is a joint committee of Council and Senate. It reports to the Research, Innovation and Postgraduate Studies Committee. It assists the prosecution of research at Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences, consistent with the University vision, and it is a channel of communication for research matters.
Membership
- Chairperson (academic staff elected by the Research Board)
- Vice Chairperson (academic staff elected by the Research Board)
- Librarian
- Two members of Council appointed by the Council
- A representative of each Faculty
- Research Manager
- IT Director
- Director of Works
- Secretary: Assistant Bursar
Ex-officio
- Vice Chancellor
- Pro Vice Chancellor
- The out-going Chairperson of the Research Board
Current membership is issued by the Secretary. Faculty Representatives should be elected by 31 December each year for the following academic year.
Election of Chairperson and Vice Chairperson
- The election is presided over by the Research, Innovation and Postgraduate Studies Executive Dean, or a representative.
- Eligible members are current members of the Board.
- Four serving members of the Board are nominated.
- The election is by secret ballot.
- The Chairperson is the nominee with the highest number of votes.
- The Vice Chairperson is the nominee with the second highest number of votes.
- If there is a tie, the presiding member casts a vote.
Faculty research committee
Membership: the Faculty representative to the Research Board (Chairperson), a representative of each department, and the Faculty administrator as secretary.
Terms of reference:
- Develop, implement and monitor the Faculty research plan.
- Provide semester reports to the Research and Postgraduate Studies Committee.
- Consider research grant applications from faculty members before they go to the University Research Board.
- Advise applicants to forward minutes and revised applications to the Research Board Secretary.
Departmental research committee
Membership: the department representative to the faculty research committee (Chairperson), any other three departmental members appointed by the departmental chairperson, and the departmental secretary.
- Develop, implement and monitor the departmental research plan.
- Provide semester reports to the Faculty Research Committee.
- Consider and recommend on research grant applications before they go to the Faculty Research Committee.
- Advise applicants to forward minutes and revised applications to the Faculty Research Committee.
